Chanel has been, and will always be, my favorite fashion house that I will most likely continue to covet until I the day I die (my dream would actually be to die in Chanel – wouldn’t that be an elegant way to leave?). Regardless, Chanel has marked the fashion world with its glamour and simplistic elegance that will simply never go out of style. From their signature little black dress, to their coveted quilted bags and their opulent jewels, Chanel will remain on any fashionista’s “must have” list for eternity. But for now, our focus will be on The Jacket. Yes, THE Jacket. It is probably one of the most iconic pieces that Lagerfeld reproduces with new twists season after season. The jacket is completely versatile and can be worn so many ways – but the laid-back, chic look is one of my favorites. Pair your favorite Chanel jacket with a pair of light-washed skinny jeans, a relaxed white t-shirt, and your favorite nude pumps and you’re ready for whatever your day may bring. Dress Obsessed
If I haven’t mentioned it before, I’ll mention it now – I am thoroughly obsessed with the site Net-A-Porter and all the wonderful and fabulous fashion designer pickings they have to offer. With new items added to the site every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, my mouth is continuously salivating all week not only with high-anticipation for the site’s newest arrivals, but over the phenomenal clothing that my body begs to be adorned by. So on one of my daily morning peruses through the site, I found the most wondrous sun dress by RED Valentino’s Spring-Summer 2013 collection. This light, silk-organza dress is designed in a feminine silhouette with a gathered tulle skirt that would make any girl want to twirl around in this dress. The charming nautical knot pattern and printed rope border make me fall even more in love with this dress.
Unfortunately, I came to discover that the dress was sold out in my size – my mother was more than thrilled with this discovery – but I thought I would share my vision with you anyway, just in case I do happen to get my hands on this dress that I fell head-over-heels for. The dress is exquisite within itself, so there’s no need to go to crazy with this ensemble – we’re gonna keep it classic. All this dress needs is a stellar pair of red sandals, (and what designer would be better to turn to than the father of the red lacquered soles himself!), an eclectic pair of earrings and a simple clutch. Once again, I went slightly too far into my hallucination – they always tend to leave me slightly dazed - but at least it was a good one!
60 Years of Fabulous
Gucci has forever been known in the fashion-world for its production of fine leather goods. Ranging from shoes to bags, their leather expertise has never disappointed their audience. 2013 marks the 60th anniversary of the Italian house’s iconic horsebit loafer, complete with the signature double ring and bar motif. It’s hard to believe that these moccasins have remained in-style and “cool” for this long and are still a part of every knowledgable fashionista’s coveted shoe list (mine included!). This year also marks the anniversary that Gucci introduced shoes into their collection – there was a time when Gucci didn’t make shoes? What? This life-altering (well, life-altering in the fashion world at least…) occasion could not go unnoticed, so I present to you Gucci’s birthday celebration collection. Still made with high-quality craftsmanship and design, the “re-invented” loafers will be available in bright, patent-leather hues including orange, coral, yellow, green and pink. With Spring hopefully just around the corner, it will be perfect timing to adorn this immortal shoe in your favorite vivid shade.
Slumber Party
Let’s be honest, don’t you have those days when you just want to stay in your pajamas all day? They’re warm, cozy and can even be occasionally fashionable – who wouldn’t want to wear them in public? Now before you get any ideas, I am by no means telling you to go out on the town in full pajama attire – but here are two chic and totally socially acceptable looks. You can take this trend two different ways – you can go for the complete silk set or just pair either the top with jeans or the bottoms with a structured button-down.
For the complete silky set, pair a printed, button-down shirt with silk pants in a contrasting color to give it a pop, and so it doesn’t look like you are truly wearing a pajama set. Next, add on a bold pair of pumps and a tailored blazer – a swipe of bright lipstick probably wouldn’t hurt either (like this fabulous coral color). This head-to-toe look will make a big impact at your next event, and is a stylish alternative to the typical structured suit.
If you’re not feeling the entire pajama get-up, you can go for a much more casual look by still pairing a silk, patterned, button-down shirt with loose-fitting boyfriend jeans. Instead of doing a bold heel with this look, go for an edgy pair of loafers as a contrast for the soft, silky top. Lastly, grab a pair of big colorful shades, and you’re ready for any upscale pajama party.
Off-Duty Chic
With the dreary weather we’ve been having on the East Coast, its been very difficult for me to feel inspired to dress up in my usual stylish attire. Don’t worry – I haven’t slipped into the leggings and Ugg look – but I have come up with an alternative style that will keep you prepared for the cold, rainy weather, while still looking fabulously put-together. This look is all about seeming effortlessly cool, without making it look like you tried too hard to put this outfit together. Start out with your favorite pair or dark skinny jeans, and add on a fun flowy top. Next, you’ll need to dress up the look a little bit with a great piece of statement jewelry, like this chain necklace from Kenneth Jay Lane. Finish off this easy style with a big, comfy parka and a cool pair of short leather ankle boots. This outfit will keep you looking chic all day, even if you’re “off-duty”.
Rachel Zoe 2013 Resort Collection
Bananas and OOC wouldn’t be enough Zoe-isms to describe the new designer’s 2013 Resort Collection. The collection includes typical chic suits that are both tailored and sophisticated – making any go-getter ready for the work day. But besides Zoe’s signature look, fun pieces are dabbled throughout the collection, including this gorgeous blue ruffle dress. Accompany this fun-loving dress with a stellar pair of gold heels and a great pair of hoops to match. Not only is the structure of this dress exquisite, but the bright color and the intriguing pattern are enough to make me just die over this dress. Whether you’re going out with friends or to a fancy party, you’re sure to be a show-stopper in this dress.
Other fun items that are a stand-out from this warm-weather collection are the drawstring sweater and the dot jacquard skirt. This seafoam green sweater would look great paired with white jeans and an awesome pair of wedges. This is going to be your favorite spring-
time outfit – but until we get into those warmer spring months, the black and white jacquard print skirt will keep you warm while looking stylish in those brisk months still to come. Pair this skirt with a form fitting black turtleneck, black stockings, and a fabulous pair of black riding boots. This warm weather look will keep you looking chic all day long. Now, what couldn’t be mah-jor about any of those outfits?
Don’t Sweat it Girl
Remember that New Year’s Resolution that 90% of us made? That one where we said we would go to the gym more and get our bodies in shape for bikini season? Yeah, I forgot that New Year’s Resolution already too. We all make it – mostly likely every year – and say that we’ll go to the gym more, we’re gonna work-out more and eat healthy – and then eye the tub of Chubby Hubby ice-cream in the freezer. But maybe we would all be more enticed to exercise if we liked the clothes we were wearing while working-out.
I know every time I put on my Lululemon attire, I feel like I can do a crazy yoga headstand,
run 100 miles, or at least find a way to get my ass to the gym. Either way, I always feel better and am more motivated to exercise if I look good, and my Lululemon outfits do just the trick. Made with a combination of luon and circle mesh, the No Limits Tank is my favorite top to work-out in. The loose fit allows literally no limits to your movement. The moisture-wicking and anti-stink properties also help ease the mind about any sweating issues. To match your new loose fitting tank, add on a pair of Run for you Life Crops. The power luxtreme fabric gives these crops a snug fit that allows you to feel comfortable moving all around the gym. And that circle mesh behind the knees –
cause we all know how sweating there is the worst feeling – keeps you dry so you’re always good-to-go. To top of the whole outfit, don’t forget about the Skinny Satin Pirouette Headband. With a sticky silicone strip on the inside, the headband won’t move an inch and none of your hairs will ever be out of place – even after a long work-out at the gym. So with your yoga/work-out outfit put together, you’re ready for whatever exercise comes your way!
Happy New Year’s!
Hello again! Well, I am finally back after a long and unexcused hiatus from the blogosphere. Part of my New Year’s resolution this year is to maintain and dedicate more time to my blog – it truly has become a passion of mine and it would be a shame to not continue it! So since we are already about a full week into the New Year, I think it’s time we explore some New Year Closet Resolutions.
1. Clutch It – Although we know how great clutches are for those dinner dates or dancing the night away, they are also a great option for everyday too. I know how attached we’ve become to our “carry-all’s” that we pretty much keep our life in, but in the New Year, try to think “less is more” (although, this is a very hard motto for me to follow!)
2. Neutrals, Neutrals, Neutrals – Neutral hues are always classic and will never go out of style, so it is important to ensure you start off the New Year with a good arsenal of neutral beauties to accompany your outfits throughout the year. Whether it is a nude lace dress, or the perfect nude pump, one should have these foundation shades on hand to complement any outfit.
3. Come here kitty kitty! - Kitten heels are always looked down upon as being the less sexier and less popular heel. But let’s be real – who can really walk around in five inch heels all day anyway? Kitten heels add just the right amount of sexiness to a high-gloss business outfit, or even add just a bit a glamour to your everyday ensemble.
4. BE BOLD! – It can be hard to step outside of the box sometimes, but it never hurts to take a chance. Let this year be the year you experiment with mixing prints, wearing a color you never thought you would wear (like neon green!) or simply by trying a new lipstick. Plus, being bold always adds an extra little boost of confidence – and that never hurts!
5. Perfectly Polished – I am a big fan of nail polish colors and trends. A signature red for the holidays to the perfect shade of tangerine for summer, I’m all about including my fingers into my outfit. Start off 2013 with some sparkly, metallic shades. Appropriately named after the iconic 1976 dance hit, I think this new color by NARS is the perfect way to ring in the New Year.

Burgundy Baroness
Fall is definitely in the air with this crisp Autumn chill that’s in the air over here on the East Coast. So what better to way to celebrate than with another amazing color obsession? Burgundy, crimson, or oxblood, whatever your fancy is – this is the color for fall. This intense pigment has the ability to complement almost any other color, and creates an instant level of richness that embellishes any outfit.
It’s a deep, regal, and illustrious hue that looks best in opulent, heavy-duty fabrics. I’m thinking soft leathers, lush velvets and cozy cashmere’s are the way to rock out this color confection this season. Take on a flattering neoprene dress, an ever-essential and classic leather bag, or even a trendy peplum top. Whichever garment you choose to showcase this maroon maven – you can’t go wrong! So, elevate your look to elegant-like status with Fall’s most coveted hue.
